got a nice, colorful, healthy Melanurus Wrasse last Saturday the 23rd.
after acclimation not even 15 seconds after i let him into the display he was in the sandbed.

today i was stirring my sandbed as i do every two weeks during maintenance and he decided to pop out,i guess i spooked him.
he defiantly changed locations since his first burrow, does that mean hes been out of the sand or can they move through the sand?
i usually stay up late so and the tank is in my room and i constantly glance at it even when lights out but haven't seen him.

anyways he went back into the sand shortly after.
ive had plenty of wrasse in the past but no burrowers so im not used to this.

how long do these guys usually take to surface after introduction into a new tank?

Mine was out the first day. Each fish behaves differently so I wouldn't be concerned. Once it becomes adjusted to it's new surroundings it will settle down to it's own schedule, mine comes up out of the sand around 8 every morning and shoots back in between 8-9 at night just before lights out. I love my Melanarus, one of the most active fish in my tank.

It's probably a combo of both: coming out when you don't see it and swimming under the sand.
