melanurus wrasse

Will a melanurus kill my fighting conch. How do you keep a clean up crew of snails if the wrasse kills them I have mostly turbos now but i guess he will have them for lunch.

its possible. they are hit or miss. I had one that was fine with everything that was in the tank before him. If I added anything he would try to eat it.

Mine leaves them alone.. better behaved than a mystery wrasse for sure. Mine does a great job of patrolling the clams for any unwanted pest!

I started having problems with my mystery wrasse going after my clean up crew, so I started feeding more and so far that has fixed the problem.

mine won't touch any invert on most cases very few will bother inverts but u never know you always got that renegade

I must have the renegade then snails and shrimp are definitely on his menu, but mine does not bother my conk at all that I am aware of.

mine will pick off a snail or hermit every once in awhile. he leaves the bigger stuff alone though. my conchs are never bothered, my CRB shrimp is never bothered and most of the bigger turbo snails are ok. like said above it is hit or miss with them, some are fine, some are fine for 1 year and become terrors, some are terrible from the get go.

i have noticed that if i place my new CUC in the rock work and keep the wrasse fed before i add them to the tank. i usually have good luck, but that is not to say he will not pick some of them off down the line. thats just the wrasse acting like he would in the ocean.

Did you research this fish any before you bought it?

mine is huge and Ive had it for years. Ive only seen it take down hermits. I actually saw my conch take out a small turbo the other day.

I have two. Each in different systems (unsuccessful pairing). One is skittish but invert friendly. The other is super friendly, but will pick on inverts occasionally. He kills a snail on occasion. Unfort I suspect he pecked the eyes off my conch.... so sounds like these guys can vary. Still.. awesome fish. I just pick up extra snails every now and then to counter losses.

I have two friends with them in there reefs and they are both well behaved. But from what I've read they are hit or miss. But from what I ve read most are ok.

Mine only goes after snails if they fall off the glass/rock and are upside down. I have quite a few halichoeres and have no idea who is responsible, but I have no hermits left.

Mine has been known to go after a snail from time to time. seems to not bother with the hermits and it's been with a peppermint shrimp for about a year now.
