Melanurus Wrasse

I'm looking to finish my fish stock with a wrasse. I have a 95-Wave tank with 3 pj cardinals, 3 purple firefish, 2 green chromis, 1 algae blenny, and 1 yellow tang.

I considered a 6-line and found the reading to be a little hit or miss so I'll pass on it. My LFS suggested a 12-line. I happened to catch a glimpse of the Melanurus passing through the isle and I love the looks. Supposedly they very mild tempered compared to the 6-line. Also saw a X-mas Wrasse but not familiar with it's temperament. Anyone have any comments or suggestions or links? Thanks!

I suspect that your 3 purple firefish will soon become 1 purple firefish as they will not get along. The choice of a Melanurus Wrasse should be fine as it will get along just fine with the other inhabitants.

I have a melanurus and he's great. No problem with our chromis, firefish, clownfish, or other fairy wrasses.

There was a recent thread about the H. melanurus and some people say their melanurus ate their shrimp. Ours hasn't eaten our peppermint or cleaners yet though. Anyway, you may want to check it out - but you'll have to search this forum after around midnight otherwise the server load will be too busy :-)

Awesome. Thanks for the link.

snorvich - unfortunately, I listened to my LFS early in my startup and they said purple firefish do well in small groups. As of today, there's a dominant one that hangs out right in front of the tank and the other 2 hide and pop out when it's feeding time. I have plenty of LR so I don't think it should be a problem. The "alpha male" doesn't chase them far...
