i know melenarus are reef safe, but i cant seem to find info if they are ok with shrimp in the tank...any body know or have them together???

I have READ (mind you!) that if the shrimp are already resident in the tank, they will be left alone. Not sure if I would actually try it though. But do not add shrimp AFTER, those will be munched ASAP.

Sincerely,
Matthew

My melanurus has always ignored my skunk cleaner shrimp, but the shrimp was established in the tank before I introduced the melanurus. Before I purchased them, I did a lot of research that basically led me to conclude it is hit or miss with them, but it is a much better idea to introduce the shrimp prior to adding the melanurus to the tank.

Mine never bothered any of the four ornamental shrimp but was merciless to the small hermits and some of the snails.

In the general sense, most people report any existing shrimp in the tank to be safe. However, any shrimp added after the melanurus might become a meal; depends on the type and size of the shrimp. The bigger the shrimp of course, the less likely they'll become a meal.

i gotta admit, my melenarus is about 2.5-3" now. so prolly not a good idea, he has been running laps in my tank for about 6-7 months now. so not gunna happen. and especially since i watched him beast a mexican turbo snail, so i gotta do some thinking...
