Please let us know how it works for you.

I'll be sure to check back. I've got to order the OM first. I didn't know what size to get until I decided what pump I was going to use. Thanks for the advice folks.

My bro has a quiet one for his return on his 29 that wouldn't restart this week. it's only about 8 months old. he finally got it to start but will be replacing to a MAG ASAP.

Weird. I've heard of quite a few people that use them, but have never heard of that problem. The biggest complaint I've heard about them is that there is more head loss than advertised. I've had no problems with the pump restarting when it's unplugged, but that will be something I keep my eye on. Of course if it doesn't start the next time that will give me a reason to buy a true external :)

I use a Quiet One on my SW mixing tank. It cycles on for 15 minutes 4 x per day and it has been great. No problems whatsoever. It does double duty and removes water from my sump during water changes.

i have been using a Quiet One 4000 as a return on my reef for over a year and i have had no problems with it

Well I ordered my Ocean's Motions Super Squirt Compact today. It's coming to my parents' house next week so hopefully I'll be able to pick it up in the next 2 weeks and as soon as I get a free Saturday, I'll get things up and running, and we can see if the quiet one does the trick.

I used a Quite One on my closed loop and everytime I turned it off I couldn't get it restarted. It was a pain to take apart and clean. I got fed up with it and no longer have a closed loop.

Shawn, you should try it with a different pump. And make sure your closed loop doesn't suck in any sand, as that can be a real issue.

I have a quick question about Chaetomorpha Algae. How often should I trim it back? When I got it back in Feb. it was the size of my fist. Now it is the size of a soccer or basket ball.

You can harvest out 25% or 50% at a time. Once you do, tug the rest of it apart slightly to encourage growth.

I'm sure someone in your area would love some of your cheato, so post it on your club's message board or here on the Trade/Sell forum. Even your fish store will accept it.

I produce so much that I started just composting it for the garden. I give it away when I can but if no one needs some on the compost pile it goes.

Oh man Keith, I wish you lived closer to me, I am in need of chaeto and the LFS sells it for $15 butI am too cheap for that right now.

Skimmate 48 hours later

Skimmate 48 hours later

Here's the results after 48 hours. I didn't get as much skimmate as I'd hoped. But I also didn't change anything on the skimmer while it was working over the past two days, to avoid skewing my results.

I collected 550ml of skimmate in the past two days.

The neck was gunked up pretty well, so I rubbed my finger along the inside to get to good blob.

And it is ready for more. The bubbles at the top of the foam head seem to be rather large, although in the neck they are super fine.

Is there a reef club around you? Alot of them have people willing to give it away. Some people will ship it to you just for the cost of shipping.

marc, do you have any idea what you used to pull out before the mod?
