Membership info question

New member
Now that we have bylaws we should also have a membership application. This in my opinion is important for a few reasons.

1- When a new person wants to be a members of cdmas we should have a certin amount of info about the person. After all they may be going to your home for a meeting:eek2:

2- It would also help distinguish an active member from a non-active member....if members are asked to renew there membership app on a yearly basis.

3- To vote you need to be "a member in good standing"

Any how.....I figure it's best to keep it simple.

First/Last Name
Address, city, state
e-mail
D/O/B <--Maybe:rolleyes:
Phone Number <--Maybe

Of course some private info...namely Phone # and street address shall be kept private. Most of the rest of the info could be posted on the membership page.

Thoughts??

I agree, for all of the reasons listed. Plus we can quote a membership count to vendors, advertisers, donators, etc.

The accuracy of my admitted DOB is questionalble ...

Joe, I think it would be helpful for new members if somehow in the signature there was a designation for Council members. I know this is on the member site - it just might be easier to see it when someone is reading a post.

Also on the member site would it be possible to list names of significant sometimes non-reefing others? Sometimes I forget names and would like to greet host and hostesses properly.

I think the member info idea is a good one...it wouldn't be asking for any more info than you put on a raffle ticket...except for birthdate...and....as mentioned by sara..the accuracy of that info is questionable anyway....hehe

I agree on the app. stuff, I also agree that personal info is just that, personal, and should be kept private and confidential. However as just as it may seem I don't believe that for group rates or discounts that the info should ever be given to vendors, advertisors or the like.

Inactive members should either be removed or moved to an area that can be re-accessed at a later time. Other than that, I'm all for it(except for that membership fee thing).

I've been to a couple of meetings now, although I'm not technically a member. I sent Jallard my info a while back but I'm not listed on the site yet (BTW this is not a veiled complaint).

As a newbie not listed on the CDMAS site I was a little uncomfortable asking for directions to the meetings. Mainly because I thought the host might not want a "stranger" coming to their home.

I think it is a good idea for all involved.

No biggie. Like I said, I wasn't complaining. It's all good
I'm grateful to all who volunteer their time to help organize the club. It's a great thing for a fledgling aquarist like me. Thanks.

FWIW - I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable membership fee.

I do believe that I can now say that I am an official member of CDMAS....

"In Good Standing" Too! :D

Great Job guys.

Member personal info should remain confidential. However (feel free to correct me if I read your comment wrong.) I feel that if the meeting hosts are inviting members, as guests, into their home its not too much for the club to ask for mailing asddresses.

I am worried about the " Good Standing". I have not been to a meeting in a while. And have posted little also. I now work 3rd shift and have worked 5 weeks straight.

So when I pop on everyday, I just try to catch up with whats going on..And things seem to be moving along fast and in a good direction.

no reason to worry about the "good standing" part. We don't charge dues so this is one way we can differentiate from a member who never filled out a membership form to those who did. Then possibly every year we can just contact the members on file and have them review there info. At least that way we will know who still has an interest in being part of the club, and hence the "good standing" part.

And there is nothing in our bylaws that require a member to attend any meetings :) It's nice but not a requirement
