Merten 36" and Counting

This Merten is settling down in the new tank, and getting bigger and bigger everyday.
Anyone know what is a max size of it in the wild?

Beautiful! I think there was a lady in the bay area years ago that had like an 1100g tank with a mertensii that got close to 4' across before she took down her system. Some of those who have been around awhile may remember her and if this is accurate?

Wow it looks great! I read on another forum (I think) I remember reading a guy that scuba diving said he saw them get up to 5-6' diameter in the wild. I've never seen a picture of them that big though. Most the photo's I've seen look like they're in the same size range as yours. Mine goes between 20-30" depending on if it's mad at my maintenance or lack there of. Mine shows white splotches when it's stressed, yours I don't see any white on it. Looks great!

What was it's size when you first got it? How long have you had it?

I got it from my friend. It was about 16" when I got it.

No, they are LTAs. Yes, you can mix them together, but they need a big system to thrive.

Unfortunately, I had to re-arrange them again because the Merten was getting too big.
It will take a few months to re-aqua-cape and for them to settle down on the new place.
I will post some pics then.
