Mesh Light cover/screen? Basically a lampshade

Has anybody done something like this instead of a heavy wood top?

Basically I don't want, nor need a wood top for my light, but I would like to reduce the glare on the rest of the room.

I was thinking I could get some black material and sew it around some wire to create basically a lampshade.

What do you guys think?

I saw a tank that had a couple kessil's over it and he hid them inside a oriental style lamp shades.

Sure.. thousands of tanks with "pendant" lighting..

Yes I would look up pedant lamp shade.
