Is it possible to do a mesh mod on a tunze skimmer pump.I have the 9420 but I have never taken it apart to see if it can be modded to get more air out of it.Does any one know if it can be done.
It can be done works fine on pumps used in the DOC skimmers, you won't be able to fit more than 1 layer though if you leave the stock impeller in place. Pulls more air for sure but the small body on the DOC really can't handle much more.
Its the 9420 its 2 skimmers stuck together.I know the newer tunze pumps are supposed to pull more air.I wonder if you can replace them with the new pumps
I've only done this on the older DOC skimmers not master DOC. The older DOC's uses the same size body as the Comline 3166 type filter. You can only fit one layer of mesh on an unmodified stock impeller. You will pull more air but the body really can't handle it and you will need to restrict the air flow into the pump. I have a bubble master skimmer also and I think that uses the same style pump on the master DOC. That is a pure meshwheel design.
yes I have it.I bought it a while back when my tank was running. Its a nice skimmer but I wouldn't put it on an sps tank larger than 200 gal.It mostly wet skims.I have it sitting in a bucket and don't use it.There are better skimmers out there for that kind of money.ATI bubble master for one.Marine depot sells them.
