Mesh Mod

Not Quite Right
Are there a lot of folks using the mesh mod? And if so, any tips or pointers on doing it? I found several threads and how-to's.

Some questions are:

How long does it last
Is balancing the disk important?
Enkamat? Is there anything else?

I have a Sedra 3500 that I need to re-do and don't want to screw it up.

Thanks

You won't screw it up. Either it'll spin right or it won't and you can re-do it.

Just make sure you trim it good. I used 2 or 3 layers of mesh.

The secret is to not use too much. It doesn't take a lot and if you use too much the pump will overheat. You don't want the overall diameter larger than the stock impeller...it will drag and have a hard time starting.

On my new skimmer pump which is an actual threadwheel (basically where the meshmod came from) there's only like a layer and a half on it. Makes a ton of bubbles.
