Metal Halide and glass top

I have a SunDial HQI Pendant Metal Halide for my frag tank and wanted to know if i still need the glass top for the aquarium. Will the atinics bleach the corals or kill them without it? BTW the MH has its own glass protector about 1/4in thick and I have no fish so no jumping problem.

As long as you leave the factory glass in place on the pendant it will be fine, actinics are no problem being bare, just that double ended halide bulb.
