metal halide light bulb breaking in...?

about 2 weeks ago, i bought a new 14kk 150w mh light bulb for my aquarium... previously, i was using 20kk... the first few days using th bulb, i was second guessing my decision to go with 14kk because it was really yellow... i then read about how yellow water can actually make a white color light appear yellow...

so about 3 or 4 days of using the light bulb, i started running carbon... yesturday and today, i noticed that the color of the light is actually very pleasing to look at now with a slight hint of blue that was not there before...

the question is, i'm not sure if this improvement in color was the cause of the carbon getting rid of the yellow tint, or if the bulb has broken in, if there is such a thing as breaking in a light bulb...

I would say while breaking in the bulb, it would be more blue and fade to white as time goes on. That's what happend with the Phoenix 14k's I ran.

I would say the carbon helped clear your water up. I'm a firm believer in carbon and UV to keep nice clear water, but that's JMO.

bulbs breakin after roughly 100hrs

funny you should say that cause the bulb just turned 100 hours yesturday... but as the other poster said, don't they shift towards white and then yellow as they break in...?
