metal halide setup questions

I'm adding 2 400 w mg to my tank and was wondering how far off the tank should I make it and how long should run them for. Also how should I acclimate my corals and should I remove them and set them on the bottom and slowly move them up or should I run them for an hour and progress over a month. All helpful suggestions are welcome.

when I had 2 400's over my tank they were 12" above the water. to acclimate the corals I would use 4 sheets of fiberglass window screen and take 1 layer off a week. worked out fine and everything was doing great.

the window screen is just the standard black window screen not the metal.

I ran my lights for 8hrs a day but the VHO's were on for 10 hrs a day.

2 400's over a 90???????????????????????

If it's a newer tank, I would only have those on for an hour to an hour and a half a day for a few weeks, and then slowly increase. Fish won't care, and you will have to research the particular light needs of any corals you add to decide how long you will need the lights on, and where to place.

Yeah yeah I know but I have even seen them over 75 gal tanks. But unless you want to trade a 250 w setup with these I'm pretty much stuck with them... don't have money buy new. Thanks for the enthusiasm... ; )

The tank is about 16 months and all the corals have been placed so I was wondering if I should lower them all down and raise them up slowly. Thanks for all ur input.
