metal halides and ultra lord acans

Young Reefer
Hey everyone,
I had a question about my metal halides. First off, i have an aqualight pro 48in( 2 150 watt hqi mh 10,000k and 2 96 watt compacts actinic) Anyways recently i bought a few ultra lord acans. when the daylights are on, their colors are fairly boring(solid orange, green) however, when i turn the moonlights on for the night their colors are imediately amazing.(orange becomes rainbow, green turns electric yellow and blue) I understand the moonlights are on the other side of the spectrum but why would the change be so extremely dramatic. Is there any way i can fix this to bring out the colors a little more during the day? Thanks
sincerely,
Michael R

Yes you can change the bulb spectrum for the MH to something higher. Like 14k for a white with more blue mixed in and/or a 20k for more deeper blue. The deeper blue lighting brings out the florescent in the corals color.

Try switching to a 14K or a 20K bulb - that will definitely bring out a lot more color out of your corals when your halides are on versus the 10K bulb you have now.

Also - Coralife usually uses an 03 blue compact fluorescent bulb. Try a 460 nm blue bulb. I find that color tends to draw out more color as well from corals. My zoas look much better under 460 blue versus 03 blue.

Try that and I am sure you will get the color you are wanting to see.

sounds great. Ill take advantage of black friday and cyber monday and pick up all those bulbs. Thank you for you help and have a happy thanksgiving.
sincerely,
Michael R
