Method for One Week Quarantine [Video]

I've been using this method for over a decade without incident. It is similar to the Tank Transfer Method with some differences. Although most RC forum members would agree that a full Quarantine should be done before releasing into the main tank most people I know simple don't bother. I developed this method to make this process easier on me and the fish.

It eliminates the need to have a full up cycled QT in the ready. In fact I don't have a permanent Quarantine Tank.

my understanding is that everything has to be completely dry before the fish is transferred if you are equating this method to ttm. that being the case (and maybe i'm missing something in the video/explanation), how can you be sure there is no chance of re-infection if you aren't drying everything?

while this method *might* work for ich, how to you ensure against velvet, brook, etc.?

Normally I only do one fish at a time. In which case everything is absolutely clean and dry.

I do not ensure against velvet or brook. Everyone should know there is risk in doing this.

as you mentioned you are doing nothing to prevent velvet/brook or any other nasty disease in entering your dt, and its velvet or brook that will wipe out a tank clean within days

with that being said, just because it never happened to you, your next addition could end up being a nuclear bomb and you are doing nothing to prevent it, ich being the least deadly one in the top 3, it kind out defeats the purpose of QT does it not?

also you do not need to have a fully cycled qt tank ready, i for one setup my qt tank 12-24 hours before getting a new fish and my qt protocol is 6 weeks.

you should write in the description of the video that this is not a full qt procedure and does nothing against the deadliest diseases!

I agree with Nina - I'd be concerned about tomonts surviving if the container isn't sterilized and dried thoroughly before the fish is transferred.

I do like your setup with clear drawers as containers - very creative!

Yes, when I first started using these plastic drawers with this method I would continue to hold the fish for the full six weeks for observation. I find it much simpler if I only have to manage one gallon of water. Under normal circumstance I would only do one fish and have the other drawers clean and dry to rotate with.

I also collect my own fish as well as buy. Usual when collecting I will need several containers.
