how do you catch the ones you want to cull lol

my koi friends, bowl up all the kois and with a tiny net cull bad ones. the problem with this for clowns is that its hard to see deformities from the top.

any suggestions?

Uhhh... with a net. I don't understand the question, look in the tank and pull out the bad ones.

I don't worry about it until I'm pulling fish for sale. First I pass them through a grader that sorts for size. Then I pull maybe 150 and place them in a tank by themselves. Then I look for bad ones and remove them one by one. The GWE gets excited when she see's the grader come off the shelf

My plan is the set up a tank with Rhinopias or similar predators. I love these fish and so can cover two issues together.

I did they same, had a tank full of lionfish that assisted in the culling process.

You just have to decide the level of acceptability, ("grading") and yes scoop out th efish via a net.
The reason you want to place these fish in a container is so the less obvious ones get seen from the sides-makes grading easier.

If you are like most of us, you really don't want to pass on any visible deformities, and Please i don't want to see any caudal-less fish (called half-moon) on the market. :^( ticked me off last time i was at the LFS they had half/moon parrot cichilds-crazy and frustrating

thanks everyone for your input. sorry for not making it clear, i was asking about methods to catch the poor quality ones. as far as actual disposal. i have a container full of ice water/cubes i put them in. i think ill use a couple 2.5 gallon tanks with heaters to help do the grading.

fmani, im very particular about culling for body deformities. that is my number one priority. even though my goal is to find any "unusual patterened" clownfish, that is secondary to a very good body

I should really post pics and a "how to" for a simple and cheap sorter/ grader. This has saved me hours of work. A few $ in scrap acrylic and a little time is all it takes. I'll try to get that done, no breeder should be without one

after my clowns reach meta. i throw them all together so a sorter/grader would be very useful.
