Methylene Blue

Is there a reason why DFS does not ship their fish bag water dosed with methylene blue? From my understanding, MB is completely safe, it increases oxygen levels keeping fish calm, detoxifies nitrite (and cyanide) and is a good anti-bacterial and anti-fungal med. Would DFS ship fish in MB if requested by the customer?

---Thanks

Jmaccvols,

Thank you for your post and your interest in Drs. Foster and Smith’s LiveAquaria. We do not use Methylene blue with our marine fish. This is because we do not pack marine fish using dirty system water where we are trying to limit the bacterial blooms during transit that can adversely affect the fish. We use new water of the same temperature, specific gravity, and pH to package every marine fish shipped from both our California and Wisconsin facilities. Through many years of testing different packaging techniques, the best possible way to ship marine fish is the methodology we have in place. This methodology is proven and is the safest way to ship any marine fish.
