MH ballast question

I've been using a 175 watt Hamilton magnetic ballast for about a month now without any problems. Just today, I happen to touch the ballast and it was hot. Not too hot to the the touch, just hot.

Is it normal for this type of ballast to generate that much heat?

Yep! That's one reason why I locate mine in the basement.

All mag ballasts are going to be hot. I used to have a dual 250 Hamilton mag ballast, and I could barely keep my hand on it.
