MH Bulb Brand

What is your prefered brand of MH bulb and why I am looking at XM's, I am needing to buy 3 250w bulbs. I am looking at doing 2 20k and one 15k or all 3 15k, and where do you purchase your bulb. Thanks for your help and time.
 
I have XM 10K's. Great par rating. Not too sure about the others. I am leaning towards going back to Ushio's though. Helolights worked for me. Very good customer service IMO.
 
The xms are great but the 15ks have less par than the 20k and the 20k is nice but you will get better growth with 10k.
 
i had an xm 15000k running on my tank but switched to a hamilton 14000k. the xm had a much better color but the hamilton has bumped up my growth significantly.
 
so if I go with 10k a more white,yellow look I will get more growth is that what your saying? Can anyone else confim this.
 
20k bulbs are like late day sun and 10k is more like mid afternoon sun. The best of both would go with 10k and supplement with artinics to bring out colors. m2c
 
I'm currently running 10K Reeflux, having switched from Ushio's. My Reeflux have a high pitched "ringing noise" that drives me nuts. PAR seems to be higher than my Ushios, but the ringing is a showstopper. I've already exchanged them once, with little improvement.

It's a vibe of some kind, because if I touch the bulb or the mogul base with a piece of wood, the ringing stops.

My next bulb will likely be XM.
 
EVC 250W 14k's... best 250W mogul bulb you can buy. Actually any of the EVC's are better than what is out there XM or phoenix or hamilton.

Check out the MH bulb PAR value and rating chart for the Bulb Test. The EVC bulbs put out an equivilant or higher par rating than some HQI bulbs. And talk about bang for your buck... they are only like $49 bucks each. I run 2 14ks on my Reef (I have tried the 10K's and 20K's as well) the 14ks are by far the best bulb I have ever found for 250W ballasts.

Just going off of Sanjay's study.... EVC's beat out most all bulbs on PAR value whether HQI or mogul... Just pointing to information that someone much smarter than I (when it comes to bulb testing) configured for us to help make decisions like this.

Since reading Sanjay's findings and trying the EVC compared to bulbs that cost twice as much I will never use anything other than EVC's... JMHO.
 
Thanks for the advice Im going to try the EVC's 14k, can't beat the price anyone else use these bulbs to.

Just to clarify your info...
I just compared par on the EVC 10k to an XM 10k and XM wins. i also compared the par on a EVC 14k to a phoenix and phoenix won. so im not sure EVC is the "best" 250w lamp like you said it is.
