I have an older coral life 2 x 175 MH DE 10k unit with 4 PC fluorescent actintic. I lost one of the balast (also coral life) about 2 weeks ago and last week the other gave out. The bulbs look good and are not the source of the outage.
As best as I could figure out from the old balast they were rated at 175w HQI electronic balast. I bought 1 Icecap 175w electonic MH balast got it from Marine Depot and wired it up per the instructions.
The bulb is getting juice and the gas inside it ionizing but it doesn't fire. What would have been the correct balast? Would replacing the bulbs matter or is it a function of matching the correct type of balast to the existing bulb?
Since the other balast failed I still need to buy one more balast and the bulbs are comming up to a year old so they may need to be replaced anyway. Do I replace the bulbs with Icecap DE bulbs? or return the new balast and get a different type? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
