MH lighting question for LPS's

I was running my 150w MH light for 6 hours a day and my LPS's are doing fine. I just switched them to run 8 hours a day so I have more hours in the day to view them. I already noticed the tank evaporating more H2O. Any other negatives in doing this switch?

I have 150MH on my LPS tank and I run the light for 8 hours, and my LPS are doing great!.

Yes you are going to have more evpoaration because you are going to have the lights on for 2 more hours.

But I would start by adding more light 30 mins more each day!

IE.... 1st day 6 hours and 30 mins
2nd day 7 hours
3rd day 7 hours and 30 mins
4th day 8 hours.

This is just so that the LPS get used to more light!

When we first got our MH's for our mainly LPS dominated tank, we only had the MH's on for about 15 minutes a day. We did that for a week, then upped it to 30 minutes a day, did that for a week and then just kept doing that over the course of a few months. They are now on for 5 hours during the day. But you're also talking about 3 250 watt MH's over a 125 gallon.

wow, don't you think thats a little overkill when it comes to light acclimation??? i could see a week or two but months, is that really neccasary?? not trying to sound like a smart *** but that just seems like a long time. i just switched from 2-150w mh to a 6 bulb tek fixture and kept the same photoperiod, the only ill affent was my tiny birdsnest frags bleached a little.

Believe it or not we did lose a couple of heads on a hammer colony when we got the new lights, even with our "overkill" acclimation.
