I also posted this in the lighting forum.
Guys I need some help... I have a 72g bowfront and the dimensions on it are 48Lx18Wx22D (its only 13 wide at the ends). I currently have 4x65w sunpaq pc lighting. I want to change to 2xMH 175 or even a 4x54 t5 setup w/ overdriven ballasts like an icecap 660. I would prefer the MHs but I don't want to heat up the water too much as it is currently 78-82 w/ only 1 fan running about 3 hours every evening in my hood and no chiller. also the hood is not very tall (about 7" from the water to top of the inside of my tanks hood) so I think that the bulb being in a spider reflector would fit but the setup may be too close to the water and really cook it. So then I think about t5s and I found a nice setup which would fit in my hood nicely but its only 4 bulbs... is that enough to really see a change from what I have and will it be enough to color up and grow some nice sps??? I've seen t5 tanks that are gorgeous but I think most run 6 or 8 bulb setups not 4. I'm about a week away from making a decision and purchasing but I don't want to make the wrong one.
heres the kit I want for the t5s

heres the one I was looking at for the 175w MH (the reeflux retro kit for 189.99)

I need some detailed feedback... can I have a nice system w/ sps on that t5 kit? Will that MH kit work in my hood since it is only about 7" from the top of the hood to the water? Opinions?
Does anyone here have this t5 setup or something similar running on a similar tank (4')? If so how is it?
Does anyone here have a similar short hood and run MHs like a pair of 175s w/o a chiller? Can it work without putting in a million fans?
If anyone does have a similar setup I'd love to check it out for myself if possible.
Thanks a ton guys..
