MH recomendation

My electrician just added 4 20 amp circuits with 16 outlets for my in-process 390g. He would not wire 220, said it was a code issue.

luminary...thanks for all the info...still trying to decide on lighting.

Mflamb, thanks for the information on the 220. Interesting.

Also, as Matt did the calculation it is interesing to see that there appears to be no real savings. Interesting.

One last question.... After looking this all over I have decided on 250 watt MH's, now would you choose an HQI (double ended) or mogul socket? What will give me a better choice in bulbs?

Thanks,

My 390 is 31" tall. I'm going to use 3 250 MH 10k, 10 inches from the water and supplement with t-5 actinic.

Sorry Dave I don't know that answer but I do have a question :D I was reading on one of the DIY threads and they were saying to make sure to put a 220 in for either the protein skimmer or reactor - can't remember which. I'm not sure what kind of power these take - just an idea to keep in mind. Also I'm sure each state has different codes.

I didn't put in any 220. Nothing aquarium related requires it. And if you do the math, you wont save any $$$ by using 220 lights or pumps....and 220 hurts a lot more if there is an accident. Just my $0.02!

Yea, that's what I have concluded also by all the comments. I just didn't know about any of the larger types of equipment. I was thinking about rewiring my aquarium room and thought that I would need 220 for larger equipment. It's a good thing we've had lots of interest in this tread - very good information.

Thanks,

When I planned my 225, I considered switching to HQI. I decided against it because of advice that the light spread with a mogul and spider reflector (or any other mogul reflector) was better than the spread from an HQI fixture. Granted, this was 2 years ago so things may have changed...
