what is the proper size MH for a 50 gal hex 22"w X 25" deep? and what other lights do i need with it. planning on slowly building up sps collection.

if you want the light to penetrate all the way down then 400watt SE or You might get away with a 250 HQI, but maybe soemone who runs an HQI can confirm that

250W SE or DE will work fine. You'll get good results with SPS from middle to top of the tank. You can keep some nice softies or LPS towards the bottom.

400W might be a bit too much for a 22L x 25H x??D. Unless you have a chiller, the tank might just heat up a bit too much.

I have a 35g hex and I used to have a 250w SE on it and without a chiller, it would bring my tank up to about 95 degrees WITH a fan on it. My MH was about 12" above my tank in a canopy. My tank crashed when my chiller gave out on me. You have more water volume so maybe your results may vary.

Hummm...I never caught the ? for his depth...I thought the depth was 25, lol...In that case I totally agree with Saltydds.
