MH venting

I got my brand new canopy and stand today Looks AWSOME! and I am sitting here trying to figure out the best way to keep it cool I am gonna have 3 400watt MHs in the canopy would 4 fans 2 blowing in 2 blowing out work or could i vent the top and add 4 fans on top of the canopy pulling air out the canopy also has a open back

I like fans blowing out, but if you did want 2 blowing in pointing them at the waters surface would give you crazy cooling + great shimmer effect + having to top off a ton of fresh water.

Thanks Rhett as soon as I get everything fixed I'll send you some pics of those tank braces so you can send to ty and maybe get some ideas

i dont know but that sounds like that would be plenty of fans at least i hope so i am going to run 2 250s in a canopy and i am only gonna have two fans on in and one out

Having all the fans pulling air out works better than pushing air in. it all works best if the system is as closed as possible. have vent at one in letting fresh air in, and then fans pulling air thru the canopy on the other. If you have an open back, this makes it difficult to achieve as the path of least resistance is taken by the air. In such a case (as mine was) I had fans blowing in and across the bulbs with the warm air allowed to escape thru the top. didnt cool all that well, but sufficed.

If you can close in 90% of the back, you will be much better off.

You might be able to get away with 4 hole in to top of the canopy without fans as the warm air will naturally rise and suck cooler air in from below. You could go with a single fan that blows on the waters surface wired to a water temperature controler. less noise less power and better control.
