MH vs. T5

Sana's tank pretty much kills the debate over whether T5's can keep SPS or not.

Not to mention Sunny, Mcliffy, Poseidon, kangym or reefbum...just to name a few. :D

Thanks Sana!

I am going to replace the MH's on my 225 with 6 80w T5's and I love your colors. I've printed it out and saved it.

I don't really want to go with the trial and error approach, as neither I nor my hubby enjoy accessing my in wall fixture and taking up and down:)!!

Thanks!

Hi joyce, welcome to the T5 world, 1 question how long have you had your corals under MH, i ask because i have a fellow reefer that trades corals with me, he has MH and brings me the most colorful corals, deep purple, deep blue, deep yellow, etc and put them in my tank and turn brown, BUT in a couple of months they start to color back up again and look as before, so all i am saying is that you might loose color but in time it will come back, so be patient and dont loose hope, BTW my tank is an inwall and the lights where a hassle to take off and put back on, so i built a light rack out of a couple of closet hanging tubes, wire, rings, now i just slide the fixture when i want to work in the tank, i wish you good luck...

Hi Sana,

I've had the MH's on the 225 since 6/2005.

When I set up my 180 last year I used T5's. I love the colors, the lack of heat, no chiller and lowered electrical costs.

I can work on my 225 inwall from the back room with the lights on it OK. It's changing the bulbs that is the problem, as we can not get the fixture out from the back room.

We have to access it from the front. This involves precariously standing on the back of the love seat to remove the large pictures over the tank that hide the front access and then lifting the 45 lb. Maristar fixture down, then reversing the procedure to put it back up....UGH!...

Thanks!
Joyce
