MIAMI (WSVN) -- "There's something in the water in Miami-Dade County, but officials say residents should not be concerned.

The Water and Sewer Department will be conducting its yearly chlorine treatment in the water for the next two weeks.

Tap water might smell or taste a little different, like chlorine but not to worry, officials said the change won't be of any danger to your health."

I'm wondering what that something in the water is?

Here's some general info regarding our water here in Miami-Dade:

and of course SFWMD's website http://www.sfwmd.gov

As some of you know Miami-Dade uses Chloramine (a combination of Chlorine and Ammonia) instead of Chlorine to treat their water supply so make sure your filters are still effective in removing it.

Here's a great article with all the information regarding Chloramine you ever wanted to know:

That would be sewage. Most of it is dumped about 2 miles off-shore, not a good thing, but it is the truth.

He is talking about treating the drinking water. I really hope there isn't sewage in that!

I think it's standard procedure to do it once a year.

Yes it is done at least once per year. Elevated levels of free chlorine are pumped into the water to nuke any bacteria that have started growing in the distribution lines. If you notice free chlorine in the tap water more often than once per year, it is because elevated bacteria levels have been detected during the routine water testing that is done throughout the distribution system on a regular basis.

some of our lines just contain stagnant water. such as lines that arent used or for fire sprinklers. with passing water causing venturi effect drawing this unqualified water from these areas. kinda gross.
