Micro air bubbles

The PVC that drains into my sump is creating quite the air bubbles. I went to Home Depot and bought a connector to extend that pvc tube a couple inches below the water level....much quieter but just as many bubbles. Any recommendations?

Do you have two drains or only one? If you have a second emergency drain install a gate valve near the bottom of your primary main drain line and slow the flow of water down until it back up and fills the primary drain line almost to your overflow box. The air is most likely from the turbulence the water is subjected to as it drains to your sump, slowing down the flow will cure the problem. Only do this if you have a second drain line or you risk a flood.

There are two lines to sump but one is just a tube in the water. No flow. And yes the water coming from the tank is a straight pvc pipe...crazy turbulence even though it's completely submerged.

If you have room in the tank or over flow box. Put a elbow on the drain that the water is draining from and then a second elbow turned down so it makes a u shape and a Valve on the drain pipe below the tank. Put a elbow on the other drain pipe but do not turn it down . Slowly close the valve until the main pipe is only pulling water NO Air. The second drain pipe with the elbow not turned down may take a small amount of water. This will make it Super Quiet..

Of Course without images we do not know if you have room for the elbows or not...

super quiet and no bubbles? That would be so great! I'll upload pics from computer tomorrow. Thanks everyone

I hope you guys can see this ok....the water coming in is just a straight PVC pipe and it's creating tons of air bubbles, which are making their way across to my pump and getting shot right back up to the display tank.

The 2nd black tube is the one I mentioned is just sitting in the sump. That's an overflow line?

If I had to guess, its the corrugated pipe that the water is cascading down creating bubbles. Make that a solid pipe with a 45 or 2 in it.

I have darn near the same setup except that my foam goes all the from the top of the water line to the bottom of the sump in the bubble trap. Never had an issue.

I Would for sure as others said Replace that pipe to a Black vinyl tubing line. Clear will grow algae inside it. Make it shorter so that there is not a low place Before it gets to the sump. As far as the air bubbles. That u clip looking thing under that pipe is meant to have a Filter sock slid in there. The filter sock will absorb the Bubbles and should be there.. OHH And that Protein skimmer does not work unhooked.. :debi:
The missing filter sock is the issue

I actually just took off the filter sock but while it was on I had as many bubbles. I'll try a different kind maybe. I'll definitely switch to a tubing though, thanks to everyone for that tip. My LFS guy is supposed to come one more time to check out all my equipment, hook up skimmer, adjust lights etc...he said to just leave it down during cycling. I need to head to shop tomorrow anyway for few things so I'll see if he can bring tubing. If not I'll hit Home Depot.
What about adding elbows....still a good idea with my sump setup?

if that does not work then the return pump might be too powerful for the overflow setup as it is.... With a image of the overflow box on the back of the tank there may be another solution...
