I know your all at the meeting right now, so you wont see this post till tonight lol. I wanted to sit in on one and meet all you guys but couldnt make it =( . I will next month for sheezy. anyway, im looking for some micro algae for my refuge, if anyone has some, i would be glad to take it off your hands. Need to get some pods in my tank, i got almost none, also take care of my Ph drops. hope your enjoying your pizza and beer!

You mean macro algae, ie., calaurpa, chaetomorpha?
I hope ;) When people refer to micro generally there talking about hair and other small nuisant algaes.
There should be a few around that might be able to accomodate you, I know funman1 was giving a whole bunch away just a lil while ago.

Bobby,

You missed out on a spectacular meeting with lots of good info from a hobbyist that probably has more experience than half of the club combined. Kudos to the MARS Board for putting it all together.

As for the 'macro' algae (I am hoping this is what you meant). Most folks donate/give this stuff away to fellow reefers all the time. I have a ton of chaeto and can bring some to the meeting next time if that's what you are looking for. I also know certain reefers who seem to be able to grow this like mad and have to practically beat it back into the refugium from time to time (oh you know who you are).

I am not sure what you meant about the Ph though? Ph will drop naturally during your photo cycle, perhaps you can explain a little more on the issues you are having?

Sorry to but in. Had a caramel machiato, and my mouth and fingers wont quit right now! :lol2:

Chaeto can be an excellent way to help prevent pH drops during the night. As you point out it's natural during the end of the photocycle. But when you run a fuge either on a reverse or 24 hr. No photocycle, no pH drop(granted your fuge is sufficient in size). Excellent choice for those dealing with considerable spikes at night and dont have the mechanics to drip, or are not proficient at providing there tank supplements while sleepwalking :D

I know funman1 had a gob of chaeto so i don't want to step on toes... But if there's a need on the West side... (W Sac, Davis, Woodland, Dixon, etc.) my wad is too big. Thanks pbetito for the booster that went buhfrigginzerk.

Oh I see... I thought he was having another issue, but now I see that he wants the macro to help with the Ph. I misread the original post - thanks for clearing that up Justin. :)

The power of algae!
(Sweet Jesus, did I actually use 'power' and 'algae' in the same sentence? )

hahaha Mike
;)

Bobby, I have some cheato if you need some,
I'm at Antelope and I80.

But if you find another member closer to ya to get it from it's no problem.

Just LMK, I grow the stuff by the TON.

Funman1,
What do you do to grow it so fast? I got a baggy from you a while back and it just sits in a little ball, seemingly getting smaller... not growing.
The light on the sump is on 24-7. So do I have to feed it? If so what?

I want to grow it by the TON.

im looking at your post times, 11:00 11:15 12:05, dont you people sleep!! lol yes i ment macro algae, and looking for the cheato for pH drops, also it can play home for lots of goodies. I dont know where mikeB is at, I live off hwy 50 and power inn. I think he might be pretty close

Anuntbeez, You need 3 things to make cheato grow like crazy

1)Lots of light (I use a 65w, Lights of America Outdoor Flood light 3 inches from the water surface)

2)Lots of flow, if you have very minimal flow it just won't grow very well

3)Nitrates, if you have high nitrates then you are feeding it plenty. Granted the whole idea is to get the nitrates down, but if you have sufficient load on the tank it should be plenty to make it grow, my nitrates are undectable but they were high when I added the fuge so I know the tank is still cranking them out.

Uhh yeah Bobby we sometimes stay up pretty late around here.
:) although you will notice that no one else is up early either..
Mr. Mike B is located right off Greenback near Sunrise blvd in Orangevale.
Like I said just let me know if you want some.

Here is a before and after pic of my refugium after just 2 weeks!!!

We were all up acclimating our new pieces after the meeting. :D

hehe, lucky you! I wish i could have made it. I had been drinking beer after the worst day at work and didnt want to drive all they way up there. My girlfriend wouldnt give me a ride because she hates fish......:( Next month for sure!

not a member of your club(obviously) but i just had to chime in on your chaeto growth after just 2 weeks funman. All i can say is WOW!. That's some hella growth!

Personally, I think Steve is secretly breeding a new genetic strain of this stuff and eventually it will take over the world!

Oh, I have seen the movie The Blob, I am on to you Steve...

Funman1 I'm also interested in some seaweed.
So if anyone is willing to bring some to the meeting next month that would be nice.
I'll take as much as you can give.
