Micro Bubbles?

Hi Roger,

Any chance my two 6080's could be causing my microbubble problem? I have them a few inches from the top of the water surface and I dont see any "vortexing" at all. But, every once and awhile they'll shoot out a burst of air bubbles. I'm assuming they start to build up to a point and then shoot out. I just down know how they get there.

- Dont worry, I know all the normal reasons for microbubbles and I think I've ruled out my sump and returns. Just wanted to check on the Tunze end of things.

Thanks!

How do you have them mounted? Every now and then mine do the same thing -- I have the magnets and air gets trapped behind the magnets in the center part -- every now and then the air releases and ends up getting blown out into the tank.

i have them mounted with the standard part that comes with them - not the magnets. its the little arm that hangs down from the top. hmmmm....

Their are many possible causes including vortexing, water chemistry, partially fouled pump, and microbubbles coming from other sources.

If the pump is dirty a partial vacuum inside degasses the dissolved gas in the water. See the sticky thread at the top of this forum regarding cleaning and pay special attention to the hole in the rotor and the upper bearing.

It might be worth lowering the pump further and checking that the solid surface is up, a 6080 probably needs to be 4" under water.

In situations where the water is super saturated with oxygen by high photosynthetic activity from bright light or algae growth or very fast growing corals. Or super saturated with CO2 from an excessive KH or excess CO2 in the effluent of a calcium reactor. The pump will be a low pressure zone where degassing will occcur.
