Micro Bubbles

i am getting micro bubbles in my tank. what would be causing this and what can i do to get them to stop??

Not sure what is causing yours but I had them because of the size of my pump/sump. I have a large pump in a small sump and before the bubbles could dissapate they were getting sucked back into the tank. I added some sponges between my baffles and it helped me, but they are just something else to have to clean.

Are you treating your top-off water? I was using a dechlor type product that had a slime coating additive. My micro bubbles were horrible. Since I switched to a product that doesn't have any additives, no more micro bubbles....

Just a thought.

I had the same problem with one of my tanks. Turned out I didn't glue the PVC well enough, air was being sucked into the join creating a "venturi like" issue. Pulled out all my plumbing and started all over.

Hopefully it isn't this. Definately a lot of work. Needless to say, when I plumbed my second tank, I was quite liberal with the glue

Your skimmer, or drain can line can cause microbubbles in the sump. Try a filter sock over the end of the drain, and one on the output of the skimmer.

that's what in your tag line:o

what kind of flow is thru the sump?
external pump?
are the bubbles coming from the water return?
are they coming from the pump?
Skimmer?
is it a new set-up?
do you have the bubbles in the fuge?

i cant see any bubbles comming from the return pipes or the powerheads. there are some bubbles in the sump but not many in the return bay at all. i have a foam surround on my outlet pipe on the skimmer, so i dont think they are comming from that, i also have filter sox on my drains. my mag 18 is in sump also

after looking at your gallery, the only thing I can think of is that it's a new system
and most new systems have micro bubbles for the first couple weeks

the other thing could be a not large enough area for the mag 18 to draw water from
water could be going over your baffles so fast that the bubbles are
not being kept out

I had a similar problem when I had a 10 gal sump with no baffles
and the tank was run with a mag 5

I had the same problem. I had a filter sock over my drain pvc but upon closer inspection timy bubbles were escaping. I took a sponge and carved out the inside a little smaller than the diameter of my drain pipe. i then placed the sponge over the drain and then placed the filter sock around the sponge and drain. it cured the bubble problem. the down side is that I have to clean the sponge and filter sock every 4 days or so but the tank looks a lot better without the bubbles.

I use pool overflow strainers to "strain" the bubbles. I have no baffles in my sump and I have no micro bubbles in my tank. You can also make good strainers out of that mesh they use for sewing/crochetting and some zip ties.

i had the same thing,
i think my pump was moving the water faster than the system could handle so the water was getting "shredded" of sorts so i closed the valve a tiny bit and the bubbles stopped
