Micro Growth Question

I have the following micro and as you can see its regrowing over dead skeleton. The dead area was there when the guy I bought it from got it a while back. It grew some for him apparently and I see some baby polyps but I'm not sure how long they have been there. Someone told me it grows much slower over dead skeleton and I should frag/mount onto rocks or plugs. What do you think?

If I cleaned it up, I guess I'd just cut away all the dead area as close to the tissue as possible, and maybe make a few frags for faster growth? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The rough skeleton will slow down the growth a lot, but the worst part is skeleton traps algae and gunk that really slows and even can cause it to recede. I would suggest flattening out the skeleton, you don’t have to frag it up though.

I agree, grind the skeleton down with a dremel tool. You can even seal it with some super glue to keep the junk out of the ground down surface =)
