Micro zoas?

Bud's Reef

As I was inspecting my tank with a magifying glass I found this speck of sand. These can't really be zoas can they? I watched as a hermit crab walked over them and they closed up like a zoa so I got them out with a pair of tweezers and glued them to a plug. Any ideas?

Im laughing (because you mounted a grain of sand) but at the same time i find this very interesting. Cool find, please keep us updated as things progress.

Have they stayed open and do they resemble anything else you already have in your tank? Seems I remember reading some zoa's release polyps from the colony that free float until they find a new home. Is this possibly the case?

I was looking at a site on how to frag zoas and the guy said that he would look on his powerheads and sand for stray zoas and then he would mount them. He had a picture of zoas on his powerhead when he didn't even place them there. Could be possible they are zoas.
