Ok i am still having the micro bubbles problem and i have tried a couple things and nothing really works i have read an idea on this site and may try this if this doesnt work out here. I was thinking if you lookat my pics behinds the skimmer which i have moved to the middle section now my return line is there with a 90 elbow on it. If i was to take this 90 off and add a TEE here and put a 3 or 4 in pipe up to the top along with having one go to the water would this rid me of the bubble problem? I just thought of this and was curious if anyone thought it may work?

I can't tell from your photo, but I use filter socks to stop mine. My skimmer puts out a lot and then I get them from the drain. The filter socks stopped them all.

i was wanting to avoid the socks because i dont want to mess with changing them out once a week tbh. I have saw another method in which the return line goes into a bigger dia pipe which goes into another bigger diametr pipe which overflows into one more bigger dia with holes at the bottom. I just figured with this the top half of the TEE would allow for air and stop the bubbles.

I have been fighting the same fight; the problem I am seeing is the bubbles are so small they don’t float straight to the surface fast enough before they get to the return pump section. I am trying to avoid the filter sock thing as well, joining in to follow along..

I had this same problem. I put a 90 degree elbow on the output of my skimmer and then inserted a 45 degree elbow into that. That reduced the bubbles but did not totally eliminate them. I finally put a nylon mesh media bag on the elbow and all the bubbles were eliminated. I rinse out the bag 2x a week and couldn't be happier with the results. I rinse it out when I top off with my r/o water so it's not that much of a pain.

Can you post a diagram of the whole sump setup? Its kind of hard to tell what your setup is.

I have what I think are microbubbles coming out of my Oceanrunner 3500 but I have nothing coming from the bubble traps (seen with the naked eye) They are so small they look like single grains of sand...I have filter socks on both my intake and my skimmer...The tank is new so Im going to give it some time to see if it works itself out....

i think your idea about the "t" has some legs, if im understanding you right. I would say that you would want the down section to go as far down to the bottom as possible, to allow the most time for bubbles to float up against the current and out the up tube. I would say space it about an inch from the bottom of the sump and see what that does.
