I'm just curious what these look like. I see a lot of Acans, blasto's and Favia's but rarely any pics of Micromussa. Just curious how many different types are out there, and what colors they come in.
Thanks in advance,
Drew

Here's a few for ya :

Peace,

I have gotten the Purple Haze, Angel Eye, and Sweet Tooth micros from fragglreef and they are sweet looking. Just small frags but I will try to get some pics later when I get home.

They still look just like Acans to me. whats the average size per polyp.
I'm actually asking this cause I bougt something labeled as a Micromussa, and I'm not sure what it is.
Do they have long feeder tenacles or short?
Thanks for all the replies and the great pics.
Drew

Micros come in a variety of colors.

I know some of you are sick of seeing the same pics from me.

It's hard to tell how small the polyps are on Macro shots.

Here's a couple pics to give you an idea how small the polyps are compared to Acan lords.

The micros are mainly on the right side of the pics.

Thanks Randy, and I don't know how anyone could get tired of looking at those pics.
Are there feeding tenacles long or short?
Drew

Hey Randy,

What type of lighting are you using on that micro/lord tank?
They look very happy!

Hey Jen,

The tank is lit by 2 250watt 20K Coralvue halides driven on a PFO HQI ballast and a 400 watt 10K Reeflux in the middle of the 250's. I also run 4 110 watt VHO's, 3 actinic and 1 50/50. The tank is only 4 foot long, so the halides are sqeezed together. The center of the tank is very bright. All the micros and lords are kept on the left side, getting less light, but you can see they are pretty close to some of the light loving Pocillopora.

Most recent pic of my tank.

The feeding tentacles are about the same size as Acan lords. Maybe a touch smaller.

Here's a pic of my Acans and Micros after the lights were out for about an hour. The pic is lit by the flash only.

I got the camera out because I noticed a lord attacking a Caulastrea. It's hard to see in that full shot.

Here's a better shot.

The Caulastrea took a beating.

They are also slow grow compare to acan lords.

Some of my Micros grow very fast.

The purple and green one that xdusty likes so much has grown very well for me, even without regular feedings.

I don't have a great shot of it way back when I got it.

Here's a couple pics from August 2005
It's on the far right in the first pic

Acans3Aug05.jpg

You can see the purple Micro is pretty small. It still has a ways to go before it covers the white putty on the rock.

Then look at this pic from October 2005
MicromussasOct05.jpg

It has covered over the white putty

Then in December 05
MicrosDec05.jpg

And finally a shot from Feb 06

It's grown very nicely.

I've gotta say it, Randy...your tank is damn impressive.

What is the coral on the top left of this pic, between the wrasse and the tongue?

Acans2Aug05.jpg

Looks like a giant palythoa or zooanthus or related sp.

Peace,

Chip

There grand polyps, from the carribean. The impressive thing about his is that they still have color and look to be doing very well. Typically in a bright tank, they bleach to white.
Thanks again Randy, those are great pics. I'll try and get pics of my thing.
Drew

Yes, I believe they are ProtoPalythoa grandis polyps.

I got a 3 polyps from a friend about 2 years ago. They have grown very well for me. There are a bunch of polyps jammed into a hole in that rock too.
