Does anyone know If its ok to put two Midas blennies together in a 225gal? I cant find anything on the internet or any of my fish books to tell me whether they will fight or not. Thanks.
It can be done, but even in that size tank it can be risky. It is best to introduce them simultaneously, though. If dominance is too unequal, the more territorial individual may starve out the lesser one.
I've had one in there since January. I think Im going to move him to my frag tank for a month, then re-introduce him and the new one back in at the same time and hopefully they wont fight. I just dont want to see them fight and kill each other. Plus they hard as heck to catch.
Actually, I think that they are one of the most easiest fish to catch. If you can get yourself one of those barnacles, the blennie will love to go into it. Mine goes in and out of the many barnacles that I have in the tank. Once it goes in there, you simply take the barnacle out with the blennie still in there. Voila!
BTW, I have a Midas Blennie in my tank and I added a Black Hi-Fin Blennie in there about two months ago. I love the contrast of both of these blennies. So far, so good. The BHFB gets its fins nipped, probably from the Midas, although I've never seen it. But it usually grows back within the next day or two.
Thank you eveyone so far. I never thought of the barnicle thing. Thats a good idea. I do something similar with my bi-color blenny and and old turbo shell.
I have two midas blennies in my 65gallon tank, introduced at the same time. The larger one does chase it sometimes but most of the day they swim bedhind one another.
Well I put a very beautiful midas blenny on hold at my LFS. He was just so Beautiful. He has the goldest color I have ever seen on a Midas. he is plump and well feed. He even has some pink on him. I am hoping that when I move my Bicolor up to my 90 gallon that they won't fight.
