Midwest Coral

So I was with my GF visiting her parents and as a thank you she took me to a local fish store. Now this fish store is in this little town called Osceola. I wasn't expecting much, maybe one fish in to small of a tank. Man was I ever surprised, they had one of the nicest coral selections I have seen. The staff was friendly and it seems like they took great care of all there livestock. If you are ever in the area I suggest you check them out.

It's a far drive, but if you want to pick up a lot of really amazing corals it is well worth the drive.

I though that they where a little high for some of thier coral, but everthing looked very nice. And lots to pick from.

I've been to thier store 1000 times over the last year. Jim and Gordan run a great shop! Two huge thumbs up here!

MWC is about 10-15 minutes drive away for me.
I really like the coral selection they have - prices may be a little on the high side but you're getting good sized corals and not tiny frags, IMO. I think it's worth a trip to check out.

In terms of advice, FME Jim is not very open minded to various approaches - DSB and refugium come to mind - he doesn't encourage nor know much about them. He discourages T5s - though he has not seen many tanks lit by them as another example. As him if he has chaetomorpha and you get a blank stare b/c he doesn't like refugiums. It doesn't mean he doesn't know stuff. He's very knowledgeable about corals.

Their drygoods are limited - but carry good quality skimmers in addition to lower end sea-clone - No skilters thankfully unlike another LFS! Test kits are low end IMO (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals) which is fine for FO but I personally like the accuracy of Salifert. That's where the beauty of the internet stores or trips to the in-laws in Lansing (where Preuss Pets is located) fill in the gap.

Like I said, I think it's worth a trip to check out.

These guys are just down the road from me. I stop in a couple times a week to see if they have anything new. They do their own coral propagation just down the road from the store and are currently expanding their growing facilities. Like mentioned above, they have their way of doing things. They know what they like in reguards to filters, substrate, etc...When I set my first tank up I bought my equipment from them and I did exactly what they said and have had very good success. I had a few issues with a couple of clowns that I bought and Jim was very quick to correct the problem. IMO, it is by far the best shop in the area.
