Midwest Reefs

Does anybody know a phone number or website for the new Dive & Aquarium shop in W. Des Moines? We want to check it out, but need to know the hours before we drive out there.
Thanks!
Anna

They seem to have decent prices, but they are targeting the higher range stuff. Currently I think the have about 6 coral tanks and a pretty good wall full of fish tanks. They are very willing to help you out (as most new businesses should be). About the only bad thing so far is not much parking.

I stopped by this place over the weekend and must say, I really liked it. They have lumenarcs, lumenmax's, tunzes, aqucontroller, ... It seams like they have all the stuff an internet store usually carries. I also like the look of their livestock. They look alot better than the local competition. We'll see if they keep it up.

I have been there a couple times, and agree, they are targeting the higher end stuff. Think they had like 4 mystery wrasses or something like that. They say they also sell LR and premixed salt water. Don't know what prices are like for that, but that would help a cycle in a new tank. Probably will end up getting water and rock for my 75 that I'm cleaning up and getting ready to set up.
The store looks great. All the tanks are totally spotless, corals look healthy, livestock looks lovely.

All in all, a great place to visit!!!

What are guys referring to when you say "targeting the higher end stuff"? Are you referring to the fact that they sell metal halides rather than pc's, and tunze's rather than rio's?

More like higher end fish... triggers, mystery wrasses, tangs, that sorta thing...at least from what I saw.

Didn't seam like they had alot of fish. They had some tanks, but seams like they had more coral tanks. What fish they had did have looked very healthy though.

We visited the store on Saturday, and were really impressed with it. They had some really nice fish, all of which looked healthy, and they had a nice selection of corals. The tanks were all very clean. Their dry goods were all top notch, and it's the first LFS I've visited who stocks Salifert test kits or Tunze equipment. We really enjoyed looking around the store, and will definitely go back next time we're in Des Moines!

How is the place pricewise. It is one thing to stock it but it is another if the say a $300 Tunze kit cost $500.

Hows the mark up?

What I looked at was pretty good. A little more than online, like online plus shipping. I think a wavebox was $550.

good idea
