TANK0789

Well I was looking at the prices of a 55g stand. And they cost about 200 if not more. Well so I decided to look on craigslist. And not only did I find a stand I found a 150g with a stand! For 300!! So I pay an extra 100 and get a huge tank! So now I have more questions! Can any sharks live in a tank that size? Can I have it half reef? And half just sand for the shark? There will be more questions lol

Sounds like you found a great deal.

I am not sure about the Shark question though as I've never kept them but I would assume they need a bigger tank that 150g as they will grow.

You will likely not be able to keep a reef and a shark in the same tank, too much "mess" from the shark to maintain the water quality the reef will need. But again, I am not an expert so... :)

Ok I figured that tho too about the shark mess. But I mean if a shark and live in a tank that size I may yet it out! Anyone else with some experience with sharks?

There are no sharks that would be suitable for a tank that size. Even the smallest sharks need very large foot prints in both side to side and front to back. think something like 4'x6' or so.

Sharks need very big tanks, because they are messy and get big. As you're new to the hobby, I really do not recommend getting a shark they should only be cared for by the expert reefers IMO. They require regular feeding, prisitne water and many other factors. So I would recommend starting with a FOWLR and then once you know all the fish are healthy start adding some coral. ;)

Well don't all fish need regular feeding and proper water ratings? I wouldn't get one right away I'm just asking if it would live in there comfortly. I want a shark and if this 150 won't do I'm not going to pay for it I will just stick with my 55g

i saw this guy sell sharks at ...uh...i dont remember their name but they were in Swickley PA ...i saw it passing trough since i dont live there so i stopped and the guy sold sharks gators...reefs ...EVERYTHING....he was also a skeeze and tried to tell me that nothing in my tank is good before even listening to what i have....he tried to sell me some 870$ MH that was collecting dust there.

either way...the SHARK was in a 500G tang...and it looked like a baby.
i also know they are not reef safe same as octopusses and little stingrays...you get the idea.

they will eat your other reef fish and inverts...and who knows what else theyd pick at but im sure they are just carnivores...but then again you see the cartoons of them having someopne license plate in their stomachs...who knows what nutrition they got out of it :)

GREAT deal for 300$!!! go for it and good luck!

Yeah, eels are pretty easy, I recommend trying a Zebra as these are the most "placid" of all of them IMO. But they will knock over anything that isn't glued down so for corals I would say peg 'em into the rock. They require feeding every 3 days - 1 week with krill, shrimp, silversides or anything really. They are considered reef safe but be careful with them around shrimp. I'm sure they would leave cleaner shrimp alone but just be warned. ;)
