but could i put a niger trigger fish in a 75g, 4 foot wide bowfront tank with these other tank inhabitants:

2 pearl eye clarkii's
1 purple tang
1 flame angel
1 cleaner wrasse
3 bubble tip anemones
1 lta

and could i have mushrooms and zoanthids in the tank with the niger trigger?? so far that is al i have in there that were on the rock when i got it.. i havnt added any corals.. and could i add corals with a niger trigger??

sorry if this is a obvious stupid question if it is big fat NO! but... i saw one at my lfs and they said it would be fine.... that i can add alot more into my 75 gallon.. but i thought i would ask here first before i get a niger trigger and all goes to H3LL...???

I wouldn't do it. 75 might be good for a juv niger, but he'll outgrow it quick. Also in a smaller tank it would probably be more aggressive. Not to mention your purple probably would'nt take too kindly to him. If you ended up getting a bigger tank, and wanted a trigger I'd look into the blue throats first anyways. Much more peaceful and reef safe in my opinion. Just have to remember, the LFS is just trying to make a living. I remember when I first got into this hobby I bought a niger being told they are peaceful and reef safe. Me not knowing ANYTHING at the time aside from what they were telling me went ahead and bought the fish (for a 55 which they also said was fine). Trigger was in there for all of 10 minutes before he killed a lemonpeel angel and started chasing my clown around trying to kill him. Then it was back to the LFS with him

yeah, its weird cause i just asked same question to my lfs.. and i trust them as well because they are more hobbiest then a store almost.. but he said a niger trigger would be just fine... so i dunno.. lol ill hold off for now for sure! i dont think i will be upgrading my tank. 75 gal is the biggest i will be going to for now anyways in my modular home.. lol otherwise i would have to reenforce my floors and i dont want to do that.. and my 75 gallon tank is really nice looking..

so any type of trigger would be ok??

No not every type of trigger is suitable for a reef tank unfortunately. IMO only the species in the Xanthichthys genus are suitable for reefs. They are a primarily planktivorous genus in the wild, and are generally more shy initially in the home aquarium. But they tend to get quite large too(10+ inches), so it's probably best to leave them out of your tank till you upgrade someday. They just wont be happy otherwise. They're beautiful fish just need lots of room to swim.

Nigers, for the most part, are indeed reef safe...
Tony Vargas wrote an excellent article for Aquarium Mag in 2010, I think, about it.
Pinktails are good too and those mentioned above...
Having said that...I never trust a trigger, lol...

But, I would not add a trig to such a small tank...also, with your flame and purple tang being the swimmers they are- not a good mix....the cleaner wrasse would probably be picked off by any trig at some point...

ok.. normally my lfs is quite good and well tell me stright up if i should or shouldnt.. they will still sell to me if i still want a "shouldnt" but they normally tell me and are good about that type of stuff so its so weird that both lfs here said it would be fine but here i am getting the answer i should be getting at the lfs.. i wont be getting a trigger.. thankyou for your imput on this.. this is why i like this site.. :) what other fish would you recomend then in my 75 gallon with these fish that i allready have?? i am doing some fish shopping today.. or looking to see whats there.. and i would like to add another fish.. my 75 gallon still looks bare.. its actutally bigger than you think.. lol (well it looks like it to me... lol
