On Sunday Jan 14 the Donor Program will be migrated to the new forum created inside the MyComas website. On that day all of the existing donor threads on RC will be closed and you will no longer be able to add our name to the list. The new listings will become available Saturday Jan 20th when the new forum becomes public.

To access the new forums you have to be registered on the COMAS website at www.mycomas.com. Please use the same username on the COMAS site as you have used on RC. That way it will make it easier for us to transfer details over from RC to the new forum.

The new forum will have far more details on each of the Donor corals and new search functions and indices will allow you to select corals with particular lighting, water flow or feeding requirements. The corals will be broken into sections such as Soft corals, SPS, LPS, Mushroom and Ricordia etc. We are very excited with this new format and hope that it will better serve you as COMAS members and allow us to keep track of who has current frags.

There will be a new section detailing the frag program guidelines and rules. I ask you all to please read through this section. There are a couple of changes that have been made to hopefully improve the number of corals returning to the program. As well as more specific instructions on frag sizes, mounting guides and other recommendations to improve the survival rate of frags.

The most significant of these changes is the requirement to return two frags of each donor coral. We have asked for this in the past though it has not been possible to enforce in any way. We solely rely on the goodwill of the members to do this. We have discovered that over the last few years only corals where a donor has returned more than one frag are still active. It is also apparent that there have been many corals that have been sponsored that have grown and never been returned to the program. There are also instances of donors having multiple frags and them all dying. Thus we ask for more frequently reports on the status of a coral. I have had several ricordias from the program and not a single one has done well. I will not take more, however, I have reported that these do not do well for me and have died. We ask other sponsors to tell us when a coral has died. This is very important for another reason, With the rapid growth of the club there are now insufficient frags to go around. We will impose a limit each sponsor to five frags from this program at any one time. Each time a single frag is returned, the sponsor is able to receive a new frag. This does not change your rights to sign up for any frag that is suitable for your tank. Thus, unless you let us know a coral has died, we can not keep track of your sponsored corals and thus you will be recorded as having more frags than you actually have.

These new rules have been decided upon by the leadership team in an effort to make this great program truly outstanding. Please feel free to discuss these changes in this thread, and once the new forum goes public, please check that we have transcribed any list with your name on it correctly.

Thanks,

Paul.
