here is the tank stand and canopy.. this will be my last rebuilding shot... if it dont work out this time... well we wont talk about that...

i have started to slowly add the salt.. i will be doing some small tweaking on the stand as i go but for the most part it is done. take a look and let me know what you think.. i need some honest opinions here so dont be afraid to let me know what you think. i am a big boy.. i can take it!! and if you know of any ways that i can make it better let me know that too! i should mention that i will be changing the color of the trim on the tank....

Looks good man! I thought you were turning turned spindles all around? What did you decide on mounting the controller?

i was going to go with the turns in all 4 but i thought that if i ever needed to route wires from the top to the bottom then i could run them down the square pieces better.. as far as mounting i think i am going to keep everything on the inside.. i really like the clean look that it has with no clutter on the outside.. i am sure that is going to change because i will get tired of taking the doors off to look at the inside but hey.. we will see

well i got all the lights hooked back up on there timers and back where they belong... got the ranco temp controller and 3 300 watt heaters ( big thanks to marc) hooked up and will be heating the tank as needed... will be needing to get some more fans going to cool the canopy i can already tell... tank temp is 80 degrees with out the heaters... highest point i noticed today was 82 degrees... getting my salt up there as well... should be starting the cycling process here in the next week or so...

i am thinking mostly sps.. but i am sure i will have a few frogspawns and hammers as i like the movement that they offer.. as far as fish go i am thinking a few tangs, percula clowns, a school of anthias and i am not for sure after that.. i know with the open rock work that i am going for i want to have an assortment of fish...

Not digging' the starfish on the wall. Looks too much like nautical themed seafood restaurant. Beside that looks great!

well i started my cycle today.. i am going to give it 8 weeks and then the clean up crew...

in the past couple days i have givin the tank its own dedicated 3 circuit breakers in the fuse box (because i kept tripping the breakers). i think i am going to add 1-2 more vortech mp40s and i am thinking about makeing the upgrade to 400 watters instead of the 250s i have now.. i will have to see if i can keep the heat away...

Hiya Mike,
Build's looking very nice and right on track :)
And wow great job in the DIY stand!!
Since you had asked for a suggestion...what ya think about removing those four corner stands holding the canopy? Make the canopy seem to hover around the main tank? What ya think?
Just my humble suggestion...:)

Happy Reefing!!

Well since u asked!! I use to have it with no end posts.. I felt it put alot of un wanted pressure on the tank... Plus I was kinda hoping I could use the ends of the canopy for more storage space and I would not do that unless I had the corners supported.. But it was that way for about a year

True...resting the canopy on the tank is not a good idea.
Only option wouldv been suspending the canopy taking support from the ceiling. Right?
Always a good idea to have storage options near n around the DT, so everything is within reach :)

ok so i have been playing around here during my cycle... dont know if i have said this yet but here is my lighting thoughts... everything i have is stuff that i have had on a setup at 1 time or another.. really dont like buying stuff if i dont have to. so with that said.....

currently i have 3 250 watt halides... and i have 330 watts worth of pc lighting.. i know i should be upgradeing to t5s or something but the pcs do me just fine for supplemental lighting..

now i will be upgradeing the metal halides to 3 400 watt metal halides and i will keep the pcs.. i am going to try and run the halides for 4-5 hours a day and let the pcs supplement the rest of the day...

now i have been playing around trying to see how i can keep the tank cool as if i cant keep it cool with 250s i wont be able to keep it cool with 400s.. i am getting a temp of 80 degrees... i have fans blowing in the canopy and in the sump... i believe i am going to have to do one of those bathroom exhaust fans in the canopy and vented outside through the attic... i think that will solve most of my heating issues.. hopefully...

now lets talk about fish selection..... i want to have 1 show quality specimen..i really love the achilles tang, but i have never had luck with them.. my next favorite would be the powder blue.. again not good luck with them either... so my search for the show fish is still on... here is what i am looking at so far...

1) 3x yellow tangs
2) 2x percula clowns
3) 1x sixline wrasse
4) 3x anthias
5) 3-4x fresh water mollies

so tell me what you think!!!

Update!!!!!!!

I bought my 3 yellows tangs and after the qt they are finally in the tank. Right now I have 3 yellow tangs, a gold stripe marroon and 2 Percs.

On a side note I have installed 3 12 k reflux bulbs and I am waiting for my pc actinics to come in the mail. I couldn't resist the urge to buy my first coral in over a year. A single orange Ricordia... I am so looking to taking this slow and watching the tank mature... It looks like I may not have to go on any trips longer then a month or so for the next 4-5 years so I should have a very nice tank here soon...
