Millepora under led

Hi all

anyone has Millepora under led?

I would like to show some pictures and to understand why I've low polyps expansion.

Flow is strong and Millepora are on top of rocks.

No problems in my tank with Mille and PE. Had an issue for a while, but that was due to a nippy pygmy angle. Fish is gone and polyps are out. I doubt is it your light.

The lack of PE is probably not related to light.

I did notice that before my crash PE was better, and it took a long time to come back but most of my milles have good PE, not insane but I'm not blaming the lighting....

PE is okay under led. But at night will be much longer

I hope you are telling, it's not the light.
Sometimes someone tell about legend of Millepore don't survive under led

I have 9 different Millie's between my display and frag tank and all are doing fine all under LED.

My Milli's are fine under Kessils and have the best PE with high flow. They're very easy corals to grow.

hey man, which mille is that? I sold some at an fmas swap as a rainbow mille, Marke sold it as rainbow as well at Macna, and Morgan sold it as papaya punch. hopefully this is it some when you grow it out I can buy a frag back from ya. That Mille did awesome under LED

Nice! Mine is in ultra recovery mode. It's still kicking though and starting to come back. It had all kinds of colors....green yellow orange peach and even blue tips under halide if you can believe it.

sorry to derail OP's thread, I had DIY RB CW leds and ran them for a year before adding T5 back. Don't have any pics, but the reason for adding the T5 was the mille. PE was good but growth was not, millepora would encrust like crazy but not grow new branches. I am sure the LED fixtures on the market today are better than what I was running at the time.

Rovster, I can believe that coral has all those colors, especially if it the same piece. Nicest Mille I have ever been in possession of. I lost the colony in the AEFW battle, RTN'd overnight. I sold and gave away many frags of it to spread around around and no one seems to have it..grrrr!!

Got mine at Coral Kingdom. I'm pretty sure it was a wild chop but it flourished in my ghetto tank under halide. It was never as nice under LED but it still grew and had very nice color and ridiculous PE. Hopefully it will rebound one day, I almost chucked it twice out of frustration. Its sitting on the sandbed right now just hanging out.
Another crappy pic from the glory days lol...

I think it can have something to do with what kind of LEDs you are using actually. Millepora is a shallow water Acropora and is exposed to a broad spectra of wavelengths. With narrow band spectra LED's it might not flourish.

This is not fact, just speculation from me, after some disussions with LED users frustrated over the sudden problems with Millepora, an Acropora they earlier have had good success with and that is generally considered to be one of the easier Acroporas out there.

That could be a problem for any SPS, not just millepora. RGB LED units should not be used for a reef tank, nor should a LED unit that lacks a broad spectrum white of some sort. The white will fill in the gaps, so to speak, between the narrow bands of color from the non-white diodes.

Interesting discussion, I'm having the same problem with my Mille under LED. Radions. In my MH tank, they were awesome, in my new tank with LED, I can't get any polyp extension.
The tanks only 2 months old, so I haven't been to worried ......

I have a pink and a palmers blue mille under ocean revive (chinese LED), and they grow very well under them with good color and polyp extension.

Mine are under reef breeder photons and doing absolutely wonderful. They're the highest placed, getting tons of light.

looking back, I believe that was the issue for me, royal blue and cool white only. Although it was not a problem for all sps. Red Planet, Xmas Mirabilis, green slimer, monti's and birdnest grew pretty good. Mille and a few other acro suffered though.

here's the start of LED, just finished the cool white 12/27/11
