I have a milli that the tips are receding. It has been in my tank for about a month. Polyps are not out. Its definately not happy. All others are good in my tank. I cant seem to figure out whats wrong

Can red bugs cause this? Im not seeing any bite marks

Water:
Calc 450
Mag 1400
Alk 8.1 - 9.5
Phosphate 0

Im lost. Should I cut the tips that are receding?

Alk 8.1-9.5?? That is a pretty big swing. I would try to get it more stable. Iknow my millies act poorly with unstable alk.

You need to get on a dosing program or get a kalk reactor or something to keep your numbers solid. There should be almost no notable swing in alk if you want your SPS to be happy all the time.

If I understand you correctly, you are dosing once a day and alk drops to 8.1 and you dose alk to get it up to 9.5? If this is the case, I would invest in a dosing pump or some sort of drip to slowly add alk several times a day. You could also get your alk and calcium where you want it, then slowly, throughout the day, dose kalk to "maintain" alk & calcium. Using a dosing pump to dose kalk several times a day would be better. I switched from dosing 2 part to dripping kalk and it has worked good for me. I just gravity feed it thru an I/V tube and adjust my alk and ca on occasion w/ 2part.

No it doesnt drop that fast. Usually .5 or less a day. I wasnt going to give my whole daily life story on how I dose until some kind of answer to my question is found out.

Well, alk swing may be the answer to your question. From your o.p., that is the only thing that jumped out at me. Yes, it could be pests. When I had redbugs, I expeienced no polyp extension and fading colors, then stn. Use a magnifying glass and/or dip. You should be able to see them, but they are tiny. Aefw cause poor polyp extension, fading of colors, and bite marks. Aefw do like millies. Use a turkey baster and see what flies off. Another possibility is the coral may not like its placement in the tank. Too much current, not enough, not acclimated to your lights, etc...

I acclimated it to the lights. I do with all my corals.

Ill try to dip it again and see if anything comes off and try a turkey baster. Ive moved it a couple of times so change in flow hasnt helped
