Anyone use a Lux meter? I dont think I am getting the correct lighting and was thinking of getting one. Is it worth it at $75?

You will want a par meter i am pretty sure lux is just brightness and has nothing to do with the energy produced by the lights that corals use.

Milwaukee Instruments doest sell par meters do they? If they only sell Lux for reef and is made to tell when ur lights should be replaced why would I need a Par meter? Confused now

Any ideas on brands and cost for a Par meter? I thought lux was cheap at $75 but the Par Meter is a little more expensive

I use a foot candle meter and have for 7 years to know when to change my lamps. No you don't replace a par meter with one but you can test your new lamps with it and each month until the lamps lose 40% of there brightness and then change your lamps. I have had lamps go bad in less than 8 months and lasted up to 18 months. At 60 to 80 dollars per lamp it does not take long for this meter to pay for itself. I check levels at the lamp and at the bottom of the aquarium.

after seeing everyones post and reading more into it I thought they were both the same but two way different meters. Lux meter is good to know when to change the bulb but I really wanted something to know where to place my coral hence the Par meter but at $200-$300 for the meters I guess I will keep playing the guessing game
