Does anybody have any information about mini anemones? I know a fellow reefer who has some for sale, but I don't know much about them, are they true anemones?

good question! needs more response than push the search button.

i agree with you. it is better for a person to not respond then to be an ***

i personally have mini carpets in my tank. they are a form of anemone but beyond that i dont know much about them myself. i do know they act the same, eat the same, multiply the same and all.... but will not host. not too mention they wont get any bigger then a half dollar. they are a very cool addition for sure and under good tank conditions they will multiply quickly when feed.

i wish i knew more to share but to be honest i never looked it up or ever tried to ask more about them.

They are carpet anemones (Stichodactyla tapetum). They generally come in a ton of different colors, are fairly hardy compared to other carpets, reproduce very quickly, can be manually divided (I ripped one in half by accident and it survived without any problems), and are truly a carpet anemone in regards to how sticky they are and how much they can take down. They are known to grab fish that wander into their grasp including those that are much larger than they are. Once they shoot their nematocysts, not much a fish can do to get away unless it's much larger than the anemone.

There is also the maxi mini which is a larger variant of the mini-carpets, I believe the same genus and species, but it gets much larger (about the same size as a rock or flower anemone) and to my knowledge is much more difficult to manually divide. The maxi minis sometimes have better coloration, although I'm not sure if this is simply because you can see the colors better. I have minis and they have some great coloration with greens, pinks, purples, and whites splashed throughout, but when they are expanded you rarely see anything but the purple and pink, which to my eye, means pretty much grey...

I believe there is a thread going on about people asking the same questions over and over. Sorry to sound like a jerk after this question has been brought up 10000000000 times.

To answer your question, yes they are true anemones, and have about the same requirements as softies, pc lighting and stable water

people really underestimate the usefulness of the search button, there are ALOT of very good threads with very detailed info on the minis

i would love to see some pics? also, they tend to be hard to find in Canada, is it the same in the US?
