I have a 5-6in scotts fairy wrasse that was apparently sucked through my closed loop pump. I have no idea how he made it, there are guards and he seems too big to fit through the pipes. Anyway, I see a poof of white come out of the CL return and on closer inspection it is a precipitate of scales. I proceed to spend the next 30 minutes searching for the victim and accounting for the inhabitants. I eventually came to the conclusion that it had to be the wrasse, all the other fish were accounted for. I was baffled. Not 2 minutes later, he swims out the rock work with a gouge missing right before his gills. He is missing a bunch of scales around the area, and his first dorsal spine is exposed.
Surprisingly, he appears to be ok (minus the gruesome gouge), is eating and swimming alertly. Albeit he looks a little in shock and shyer than usual. As I mentioned, the gouge just missed his gills, and he appears to be breathing normally, I cannot see any damage on him besides cosmetic. What precautions can I take to ensure his survival? I would be devastated if he died after all of that. I'll try to get a pic up. He is mostly hanging in the caves unless I feed him, so its hard to get a clear shot.
