Miracle mud/Deep sand bed/UV light

I was just wondering if the miracle mud that we use in our sumps is there to leech trace elements into our tank water why do we need a deep sand bed ?.Is the deep sand bed not just becoming a nitrate factory. I was toying with the idea of getting rid of my miracle mud and just making a larger sand bed and getting a UV light or getting rid of the sand bed and having a larger miracle mud base. What do you all think.
Do you recommend one over the orther or a mixture of 1,2 or 3 .
My liverock is leeching nitrates so I am trying to clear it up (bought 2nd hand with the tank) is this even possible will the liverock stop leeching.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
ps:My tank is 265 US gallons

I would say that all three are fine. Trace elements generally come by means of water changes. Leeching nitrates? How long have you had live rock in the tank. Curing or not. Any inhabitants? Could you list other parameters?

DSBs provide a place for the anaerobic bacteria which takes care of nitrate a place to thrive. Why is live rock leeching nitrates?

I have had good luck with DSBs, 6" or so, made up of sugar sized sand. I have heard mud can do the same thing, I just never used mud. Nassarius snails are recommended to sift the sand
