Missing fish

Well lights came on tonight and was doing my check of fish and feeding my 300 gallon reef, and notice a fish was missing Seems either my blue spotted jawfish is hiding somewhere or is mia. sucks it was the last of the 6 I had in there.

Hate to say it but if you have an open top tank he's probably jumped. Or he is somewhere behind the rock work in a new burrow. Like wrasses, jawfish are jumpers. I've lost two that jumped.

Hope he's just hiding and you didn't lose him. While little consolation, know that regardless of what happens your post has inspired me to continue trudging on with trying to make a lid for my tank (which will be a HUGE PITA.

Good luck.

I have a lid on it, might of been able to slip threw one area and maybe he is down in the sump, just sucks cuz he has been so happy in the hole he was in. If he is gone it sucks but its part of the hobby. Its been a good fish for the past year and half.

If you have a Sohal, maybe he his now fish poop...:)

Good luck!

He could be hiding. I kbow my ywg and tiger pistol sometimes hide for a few days and than reemerge

Check your sump. I'm amazed what I find in there. Last time I checked in mine, I found a fairy wrasse and a little percula clown. The wrasse wrasse was in there for a good two months!

Not yet, I'm checking my sump but dont really want to tear all the rock out of it and disturb everything in the sump. I'm leaning more to it escaped out of the tank on weds. night cause the wife said she heard a little splash but we didnt think anything of it cuz the bigger fish are always splashing and pulling food down off the top of the tank. Even though its cover I think it slipped threw a small area and like I said its either in the sump or the dog ate it. Cuz I havent seen anything on the floor or behind or around the stand and tank, but weds. when I let the dog in he was around the tank messing around thought he was just searching for scraps the kids leave around but maybe he found the fish and had a little snack...

Missing fish found and is alive, guess he was in hiding for a couple days but now has return to his original burrowing spot in the tank

Not to b a downer on the post but lost my scissortail dartfish the other day. He jumped out of the 125 even tho I have a canopy and egg crates on the back, must have slipped thru somehow :(

I had a Purple Tilefish jump to his death through 1/2" mesh screen. It is quit amazing what they can fit through!

thanks, Home depot has this stuff in the garden section you can use, I, like it better then egg crate because its not hard. I had a problem with egg crate before when fish would jump and hit it that it would cut then or cause other injuries sometimes resulting in death. Its a netting then use for plants. I think it comes in white gray and black. Also a lot cheaper I got a 3ft wide x 30 long for like 10 dollars. then just got some 1x2 and used an industrial stapler and stapled it to the 1x2 frame.

DiD you get the bird netting? I would suggest getting the 1/4" clear plastic netting from BRS or the same one from the group buy that Weyrman did about a year ago. I have that now.... Ain't no way in flipping HELL a fish is getting through that... unless they are a neon tetra!
