Hello everyone, i have a 29 gallon saltwater fish tank with the following in it.
plants:
featherduster ;1
fish:
2 damsels
a unknown fish(its blue someone bought for me)
1 copperband butterfly fish
invert:
1 hermit crab(kinda big)
1 arrow crab

So heres my story, i had originally 4 damsels but over 2 nights 2 of the damsels literally just vanished with no trace of death or anything. I moved all of the rocks to check for bodies but nothing was found. So where did they go? that is the question on hand because im pretty sure fish don't just dissapear like that!

Make sure you look all around on the floor and behind the stand..He may have jumped out and flipped around where you can't see him. If he did jump out and you have a dog or cat they may have found him already. :D

i don't have a cat, and the tank is covered and there is no way of a fish jumping out, ive shifted through the sand and couldn't find them either

Arrow crab, hermit crab and any bristleworms living in the tank would have dispatched the carcasses quickly.

Damsels are tough. They may have killed their counterparts off, and the clean up crew did their jobs expeditiously. That's why thay call it "clean up crew".....just like the Mafia. :)

yea i had the same situation with my tomato clown fish, i put it for a week it was still there then the next day i checked it was vanish so sight of dead body anywhere and the tank was a in wall tank so there no open top for it to jump out.

yeah i guess the hermit crab ate it after it got to the bottom, but there is no piece of the damsel anywhere is what confused me

I agree with zotzer. I lost 5 fish since Dec 28th.
2 Lyritail Antheas
1 Powder Brown Tang
1 Six line wrasse
1 Bi color Blenny and 1 other.
You wouldnt even known that I have lost that many fish.

How big is the Hermit and Arrow? They both love fish dinners. Is there an area of the tank the crabs stay away from? You might have a third crab that hitchhiked in..
